FIU in DC

At the end of the Spring 2024 semester, I signed up for FIU in DC as a student who was going to have an internship in the DC area. The first event I attended at FIU in DC was the Talent Lab discussion "AI Unveiled: Exploring Its Impact On You". At this event there were professionals from both the government and private sector who were advocating the impacts AI has and will continue to have on our society. I was able to network with the professionals in attendance as well as other students who had internships in Washington DC.
FIU in DC has been my home away from home. While I am originally from the Washington DC area, I attended FIU in Miami, FL for the first two years where I was able to learn and grow not only as a student, but as a friend and member of the community. Since the start of my internship, the faculty at FIU in DC have given me several resources and opportunities to attend upcoming events and places to study when I needed a quiet space to focus on my LSAT exam. I hope to stay in touch as an alumni with FIU in DC and look forward to connecting with their future students who will be in the same position I was once in.

Internships in DC

When I was selected to be a Summer 2024 intern for the Office of the General Counsel at Uniformed Services University, I was ecstatic to work with the attorneys who have had exceptional experience in the military and working as a civilian for the US Department of Defense. This experience solidified my desire to go to law school and become an attorney myself. I had a unique opportunity to collaborate on projects, give my thoughts on ongoing cases, and cross-reference policies to insure the university's current instructions were relevant and aligned with overarching federal policies. By the end of the Summer 2024 term, I was sad to leave such a wonderful working environment, but I was hopeful for my Fall 2024 internship under the US Department of State where I would be taking the lead on advocating for military service members and their families stationed abroad. I looked forward to contributing to the US State Department employee organization through attendance of interagency meetings, ensuring communications outreach of the employee organization, and researching policies within Status of Forces Agreements in regards to US military service members and US civilians working abroad. I also was able to obtain a "Pathways" internship with the US Social Security Administration right before graduating. My experience interning for these three agencies have been deeply supported by FIU in DC. I am very proud of my experiences while being an FIU panther, and look forward to being a part of the community of FIU alumni!
